Greetings from the Climb Any Mountain Team,

We've had a busy summer with a number of sporting fundraising events.  Thank you very much to everyone who participated or generously donated.  Our event season now switches to Autumn where we have two great events coming up – join us to Swap and Shop on 20 October and we'd love to see you at our Christmas Party on 1 December.

We also pay tribute to an extraordinary woman, Elna Welman.  Elna was the Director of the Pietermaritzburg Mental Health Society - our first partner organisation in South Africa.  We are deeply saddened by her passing, but are very privileged to have known and worked with her over the years.

We hope you enjoy this issue!  Thank you for your on-going interest and support

Elna Welman - A Tribute

Elna Welman was an extraordinary person, a beloved colleague and a friend to so many people.  We pay tribute to her enduring commitment to make a difference to the lives of those with intellectual disability and mental illness.  Her passion, courage and sense of humour will be sorely missed.

Elna passed on the 11 August 2016, after an unexpected and short illness.  The thoughts of everyone at Climb Any Mountain go out to her family and to the staff of the Pietermaritzburg Mental Health Society.

Elna was the Director of the Pietermaritzburg Mental Health Society and held a very special place in our hearts.  We looked long and hard for a partner organisation in South Africa who had the will and want to move from an institutional model of care to a more person-centred approach.  Pioneering a new type of service in South Africa takes courage, but Elna instantly saw the opportunity. Elna's eyes sparkled as we chatted and when we finished she said, "We're in!  This is exactly what we would like to do."  This was the beginning of a wonderful journey together.  Together with the PMB Mental Health Society we are even more determined to see this vision fulfilled.

The AJ Bell London Triathlon

On the 7th August, Kim Danks took on and successfully completed her first Olympic Distance Triathlon – the AJ Bell London Triathlon.  Kim completed the race in 3 hours 14 minutes and raised £2,297 for Climb Any Mountain.  Kim said, "It was a great stretch goal, and brilliant to be doing it for such a worthy cause – it meant no giving up, even if I felt like it at times!"

We would like to thank everyone who donated for their generosity.

If you interested in taking part in a triathlon, get in touch.  Climb Any Mountain provides full training plans and support.
