Climb Any Mountain is in the process of initiating an architectural competition for its first housing project in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

Such competitions are a well-recognized practice in the architectural world for facilitating innovative and creative design. Our aim is to attract established and reputable architectural firms based in South Africa to compete with each other to produce a variety of stimulating concepts and approaches for our first project, the Transitional Living Center (TLC). Our intention is that this will form the blueprint for future housing schemes planned across South Africa in the forthcoming years.

Initially architectural firms will be invited to submit their CVs to Climb Any Mountain; we will then short list five to six practices to enter the competition. The South African Institute of Architects (SAIA), along with an independent competition administrator will run the competition. A panel of architects and members of Climb Any Mountain will judge the final submissions. The winner will then be appointed as Climb Any Mountain’s architect.

Climb Any Mountain is currently creating a brief, detailing how we envisage the TLC to function. Phase one of the scheme will provide a mix of one, two and four bed, shared units offering independent living space. The site for the first TLC is on land owned by our partners, the Pietermaritzburg Mental Health Society who will manage the project on completion. We are planning to start work on site in February 2014.
