On 28 September 2014, we were represented by a small but dynamic force at the Gatorade Eton Dorney Triathlon. Friends of Climb Any Mountain came together to fundraise for the Transitional Living Centre (TLC) – the first of its kind being built in South Africa.
For many, it was their first ever triathlon! Sporting bright yellow Climb Any Mountain t-shirts, our racers entered both male and female individual sprint divisions and the team sprint division. All participants clocked under 1hr 30 mins and our very own Neil Danks achieved a PB!
In the team division, Matthew O’Connor, Fleur Chemery and Burhan Hayat braved the cycle, swim and run with enthusiasm despite dealing with injury and a deceptively cold lake, coming in at 1 hr 25 mins.
The standout performance was by Emily Thurlow whose training had obviously paid off. Emily set off fast for the 750m swim which she tackled in just 12minutes. That, coupled with clocking in well for her transition times and a great sprint finish, brought Emily over the finish line at just 1 hour 27 mins! A brilliant result for a first time triathlete.
Once again, a huge thank you to all the triathletes for their time and effort in fundraising, training and for their energy on race day. In addition, thank you to all the spectators who cheered them over the finish line.
