Climb Any Mountain (CAM) is aware of the recent media attention concerning the Durban and Coastal Mental Health Society (DCMH).

Climb Any Mountain engaged on a project basis with DCMH in February 2017 by their invitation, to provide a full and transparent view of their services – assessing what is available in South Africa for those in care against the lens of UK best practice.

DCMH had the courage to invite an assessment of their services by an independent body recognising that changes might be needed to improve on their current practices.

Following CAM’s assessment, we issued a confidential, internal report to DCMH documenting observations and giving recommendations to transform services toward person-centred care.

DCMH acknowledged the assessment report and created an action plan to transform their services on recommendations made and has engaged with CAM on an advisory basis thereafter. Although we support DCMH in their transformation to person-centred care in an advisory role, CAM is not involved in, nor have any responsibility for, the decisions or actions that DCMH choose to take regarding current issues.
